If the old gods were nothing

you wouldn’t know if Punxsutawney Phil had predicted an early Spring

if the old gods were nothing

you wouldn’t search for dyed eggs and eat chocolate bunnies

if the old gods were nothing

you wouldn’t know what a maypole is

even if your life circumstances meant you never danced one

if the old gods were nothing

midsommarfest wouldn’t be a big deal in little Nordic towns

if the old gods were nothing

you wouldn’t know about Lughnasadh

and Lugh’s devotion to his foster mother Tailtiu

oh wait you don’t

If the old gods were nothing

you wouldn’t have ever celebrated Harvest Home

lots of you never did

if the old gods were nothing

you would have never peeked through the veil in your ghost costume

if the old gods were nothing

midwinter would just be a stable and a star

and not everything that has given you joy

and I hope that something has given you joy
